The proposition of “3-Dimension Instructional Objective” (3-DIO) is well-known in the national reform of curriculum and instruction,but few definitions or interpretations have ever been made of this popular term of instructional objectives,which first formally appears in the Compendium for Curriculum Reform of Basic Education (Trial Edition) as:The National Curriculum Standards should “embody the basic requirements for students all levels in terms of knowledge and skills,processes and methods,affective attitudes and values”.However,the document does not provide the theoretical foundations for the concept.As instructional objectives play the leading role in instruction,it is of great significance to discuss and clarify the connotation of the concept.Surprisingly,there seems not much study has ever been made on it,as the literature search has turned out very few articles that academically explore the proposition,while there are thousands of articles discussing the application of the 3-DIO in instructional practice.
